What is Dental Sedation?
Our team understands that visiting the dentist can be a stressful experience for many patients. Some have neglected going to the dentist for years because of past dental experiences, fear or general anxiety.
When you visit Brookside Dental for anything, ranging from a simple restoration to wisdom tooth extractions, our goal is to make you feel comfortable every step of the way. Thankfully, sedation dentistry makes this possible.
Dr. Blacquier, Dr. Cormier, Dr. Rusanov and Dr. Morales have received certifications to provide different levels of in office sedation.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, otherwise known as laughing gas, is inhaled through the mouth and nose. The medication calms patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. It can also lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time seem to pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
This medication is taken orally approximately one hour before your appointment. While you'll be awake for your appointment, you may be groggy or slow to respond, so you will need a responsible adult to accompany you. In fact, you may find yourself less nervous about your next appointment.
Combination of Oral Sedation and Nitrous Oxide
This is a combination of both types of sedation mentioned above. This produces a deeper level of sedation for those with more severe anxiety or for longer appointments. For any kind of sedation, you must not eat or drink anything for at least two hours before your appointment.
